3 Things To Do In An Icy Real Estate Market

In Frederick, MD, and all over the tri-state area we are experiencing an extremely low inventory of homes for sale and a serious seller's market.  Though sellers are thrilled, buyers are really frustrated.  

What can you do?  Well, my Dad always told me, when driving on icy roads, there are three things you have to do to avoid a crash.  I'm comparing today's advice for buyers to what my Dad taught me to navigate icy roads.

Step one

You need the right tires!  Buyers, you also need the right Realtor.  You need toughness, experience that you can rely upon, and to be able to trust the professional you have engaged to give you the very best advice to help you win in this competitive market.

Step Two

Put more distance between you and the next car.  Buyers, you should give yourself more time to find the right property.  That means your Realtor should be advising you on how to time the end of your rental lease or the sale of your current home with moving into your next property.  There are many strategies an experienced Realtor will suggest to help you make this transition wisely.

Step Three

Put something on the ground.  My Dad said I should always carry an old phone book so I could throw it on the ground under my tires to get more traction.  Obviously, they don't even make phone books any longer but his advice was still applicable.  A great real estate professional will know what clauses to include in a buyer's contract to help them get traction in a competitive situation.  This is so critical that it is worth repeating.  If the seller has 13 offers, your best offer could get lost in the stack.  So it's absolutely critical you are relying on a trusted real estate professional who has experience negotiating and helping their buyers win in a competitive situation.
