December real estate market statistics for Maryland have just been released and show the greatest year-over-year sales increase in 2019. Maryland REALTORS Association released December 2019, results gathered by Bright MLS, and show units sold in Maryland rose by 12.6 percent with an average price increase of 5.4 percent compared to the same time in 2018.
An even more important statistic is inventory. Months of inventory in Maryland dropped to a low of 2.2 months compared to 3.7 months in December 2018. This evidences December was unusually strong for settlements and may indicate a strong spring market for sellers.
Is it a good time to sell? The answer is a resounding yes! What's surprising is that January may be a good time to sell. With inventory falling, buyers are still out in strong numbers searching for the right home. New home sales are very strong. However, prices may push first-time buyers out of the new home market. This means resale home sales will be very strong this season.
